Loving Flanigans

LL – ‘Papa L’ to all the children in the family - was as kind to our kids, as his own grandchildren.  Love of family was at the very heart of his faith.  How appropriate to translate these thoughts tonight, on the eve of our twins’ birthday.  It was eleven years ago tonight that Meegan relented to go to the emergency room, and ultimately delivered Mason and Whitney into this world.  With Tim and Doreen still yet to arrive from Kansas and the delivery so sudden, Ka and LL were the first to arrive at the hospital and see the newborn twins within an hour of birth.  Having  come straight from a gala of some sort, both Ka and L were ‘dressed to the nines’ – Ka in a gown and L in a tuxedo!  When they arrived, Chris dryly remarked that they certainly did not need to ‘dress’ on our account!  Papa L loved to tell that story, and everyone knows the trademark way in which he chuckled when telling stories like that, laughing with his shoulders as he did.  He treasured that memory, as do we.  He loved all three of our kids, and they each have the fondest memories with him over the years, from numerous birthdays at the ‘cabana and pool,’ ‘learning to drive’ from him in the golf cart at the Club, and every Easter, Fourth of July, and Eve-of-Eve in-between.   Because of his love of family, fond affection, and devoted heart, he was certainly right every time he would frequently proclaim, “God is good.”
